Laxmi Rawat

Laxmi Rawat, founder of the progressive theatre group Pragya Arts, Delhi, has been active in theatre for the last 31 years. She has performed in more than 25 plays. She obtained a two year Diploma in Acting from Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts and Culture, New Delhi with Excellent Grade.

She has had the privilege of working with various eminent directors Bansi Kaul (Padma Shri), Habib Tanveer (Padma Shri), Satyabrata Rout (Presidential Award), Mustaq Kak (Presidential Award and former Director SRC, New Delhi).

Laxmi Rawat has directed around 25 plays. The plays she has directed have gained recognition at numerous theatre festivals, including Bharatendu Natya Utsav (Delhi Government), Bharatmuni Natya Utsav (Sahitya Kala Parishad), the International Summit in Nepal, as well as festivals in Uttarakhand, Jaipur, and others.

She has also been associated with many television serials, has also done many telefilms for Delhi Doordarshan, Lucknow Doordarshan, Assam Doordarshan, Chhattisgarh Doordarshan, Rajasthan Doordarshan etc. She has established a distinct position in Uttarakhand’s regional cinema through her acting.

Laxmi Rawat has been working at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi since 1991. She is the Coordinator (Performer) of many events/festivals/conferences. She has been working with around 1500 folk artistes across India for around 14-15 years.

Ramman, ritual theatre of Saloor-Dungra village, Chamoli Garhwal  in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Which is not only rediscovered but also initiated a long-term program to revive this almost extinct art form through the development of a community-run cultural resource  centre; this included renovating and expanding performance spaces developed and maintained by community stakeholders, and establishing an audio-visual and ethnographic archive. Ramman was included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNSCO in 2009. She was the coordinator of that project.
